The meaning of ‘Photo’ ‘graphy’
Etymology
What we do in photography is contained in the original meaning of the word ‘photography’. It’s actually two Greek words; photo, meaning ‘light’ and -graphy, meaning ‘to draw’. So all we do as photographers is draw with light. This means light is the most important thing before everything else, and yes, that means location, pose, composition, exposure, amongst other things.
Once we get the light right
Once we have the best light, we then incorporate pose. Once we have the best pose for that light, we look at composition. Once we have the best composition for that pose for that light, we then turn our attention towards exposure.
